One of the core members of the recently on hiatus ‘Her Name is Calla’, Adam Weikert has been releasing Music under various names for over a decade. Receiving Airplay on BBC Radio One, Three, and Six, and even being featured in work by cult animator David Firth- his music is a broad Church spanning experimental electronics, neoclassical musings, and modern folk leanings.
Having largely refrained from performing in recent years, 2021 see’s his first (and perhaps only) show that year at Leicester’s Forgotten Futures, and for the first time he’s working with a live string Quartet. It promises to be a special one.
The show will premiere a miniature from his work in progress, ‘The Edgar Tapes’- an album Orchestrated around a tape of family members whom he sadly never met. Recorded in Oxfordshire around the 1950s, this deeply personal artifact was captured and digitised by the ‘Unlocking Our Sound Heritage’ team at Leicester University, then whittled down and restored into sections for Orchestration. Drawing heavily from the works of Gavin Bryars, the piece ‘Grandma Watson’ see’s Adam’s Great Grandmother singing over 60 years ago, looped and set on a bed of stunning strings.
The performance will also feature older works, that will be revisited, rescored, and re-imagined with strings, banjo, piano, graphics tablet and more- in a one off show laden with experimentation and heart.
